I’ve really had to be vigilant and conscious with the thoughts I was thinking and the outcomes I was intending. It hasn’t been easy. My mind kept flipping into fear and dread, and at times I felt myself getting pulled into the spiral of hopelessness.
But as soon as I recognized where I was, I chose another thought. I chose to imagine the best possible outcome. We can’t always control the things that happen in our lives, but we do have control over how we respond.
I gave myself permission to visualize the outcomes I most wanted. In many situations when it seems that there is tremendous uncertainty about what the future may hold, I choose to fill my mind with the thoughts that make me feel good. If it’s a choice of feeling good or feeling bad when things are unknown, I always choose the things I want. I believe that our thoughts are powerful and can penetrate the ever-present Source of life and that we may thereby influence our own lives.
I took time for self-care wherever I was able. That meant I took moments of quiet reflection throughout the day, I did small things that gave me pleasure, I released the pressure I was putting upon myself to accomplish more than I had energy for, and I went to bed early when I could.
I also got support. I reached out for support from my community and asked for strength and encouragement (and prayers) from them. I asked for support from those who knew more than I did about the situation and on the next best steps to move forward.

Let’s talk about how to deal with difficult times.
It’s easy to allow challenge, struggle, and hardship to pull you down and threaten to overwhelm you.
But it’s also possible to shift your mindset so that you can honor the situation and recognize the opportunity and what’s taking place within you so that you can feel empowered to make choices based on what you want rather than out of fear and limitation.
